This Anglesey trip saw a few less boats going this year. Just five set out from colchester at 6am on the25th June, and we then joined the sixth on the A14. Conditions were excellent when we arrived and continued to be superb for the first five days. With sunshine and flat calm sea we couldnt have asked for better.
Two Tope were caught on the first day, one by James McLewin and another by Ian Moore, both around the 30 to 40lb Mark.
Only four others were caught in the rest of the week. One each for John Coleman and Sean Partridge aboard "Penguin", another aboard "Jenny Vee", caught by Gordon Vaughan and finally a small fish of around ten pound fell to Danny Lenko, aboard "DD".
As usual a number of other species were landed throughout the week, including Mackeral, (sometimes proving hard to find), Pollack, Coalfish, Skate, Cod and Conger.
Bull Huss proved to be a nuisance this year, hitting the Tope Baits within minutes of them being cast out, but at least they provided a bit of sport whilst awaiting the elusive "Tope Run".
The last two days gave slightly worse weather. An onshore wind brought choppy seas and over cast skies, but we still managed to fish both days and in some ways was a nice change from the relentless sunshine we had had since the first day.
Another excellent trip. We may be back next year, or maybe we'll be venturing further afield.
